Welcome to Our Enrichment & Training Daycare
At our daycare, we believe every dog is unique—boasting its own personality and specific needs. We understand that a one-size-fits-all, all-day play approach can leave many dogs overwhelmed, struggling with self-regulation, and even stressed by constant arousal. This can lead to negative associations with the environment and, in some cases, discomfort around other dogs.
Why Choose a Structured, Individualized Approach?
While some facilities offer endless free play, we know that not every dog thrives in that setting. A structured daycare that tailors activities and social interactions to your dog's personality can provide just the right amount of stimulation—especially for dogs who may not get enough mental or physical engagement at home. Many pet parents are busy and may not always have the time to engage fully with their dogs. That’s why our program is designed to complement your schedule while ensuring your dog receives the balanced care they deserve.
Our Six Personality Profiles
To deliver a truly personalized experience, we’ve developed six personality profiles. We recognize that while personalities are complex and exist on sliding scales, these profiles help us focus on the most prominent dimensions. Below, you’ll find an overview of each type, along with typical behaviors and a few behavioral nuances. Instead of fitting exactly in the standard mold, some dogs exhibit behavioral nuances that differ slightly from the norm. These nuances help us see the broader spectrum of personality.
The Social Butterflies
Average Behavior:
- Highly sociable and thrive in group settings
- Enjoy fast-paced, dynamic interactions with both dogs and humans
- Exhibit loose, relaxed body language, large sweeping tail wags, and playful behaviors (play bows, chasing, balanced wrestling)
- Display high curiosity and adapt quickly to new environments or playmates
Behavioral nuances:
- May become overexcited with excessive jumping, barking, or interrupting play
- Occasionally lean toward dominant behaviors, though these tendencies are usually balanced by their friendly nature
Go-Getters
Average Behavior:
- High-energy, spirited dogs that excel in vigorous activities and fast-paced play
- Engage enthusiastically in chasing, wrestling, and high-energy group games
- Highly curious, exploring every corner and quickly responding to cues
Behavioral nuances:
- Can become overly excitable and may need scheduled breaks to avoid overstimulation
- Rarely, might focus too intensely on one activity or companion, requiring redirection to maintain balance
The Brainiacs
Average Behavior:
- Inquisitive and enjoy mental challenges through training games, puzzle toys, and structured tasks
- Display focused attention and learn quickly
- Often prefer one-on-one human interaction or engaging with toys over rough play in group settings
Behavioral nuances:
- Some may get frustrated if mental stimulation isn’t sufficient, potentially leading to behaviors like excessive barking or pacing
- A small subset might prefer solo activities or exclusive human interaction over group play
Timid Hearts
Average Behavior:
- Shy and cautious, often needing extra time and gentle encouragement to acclimate
- Typically stick close to handlers or observe from a distance before joining in
- Once comfortable, they participate in calm, low-energy interactions and form strong bonds with one or two companions
Behavioral nuances:
- Highly timid dogs might initially require one-on-one attention and might not engage in group activities
- At times, a Timid Heart might display defensive behaviors (like growling or retreating) when feeling overwhelmed, though these usually subside with trust-building
Lone Rangers
Average Behavior:
- Independent and self-reliant, often favoring solo activities or one-on-one interactions with staff
- Calm, focused, and enjoy exploring their environment at their own pace
- While they may engage briefly with others, they often prefer to relax alone or with a select few companions
Behavioral nuances:
- Sometimes may seem aloof or disinterested, requiring gentle encouragement to join structured activities
- Rarely, might become territorial or overly protective of their personal space, needing careful management during group sessions
Gentle Giants
Average Behavior:
- Calm, tolerant, and favor low-energy, relaxed play
- Act as stabilizers in group settings, offering a soothing presence
- Engage in polite greetings, casual sniffing, and gentle wrestling or lounging near peers
- Exhibit high levels of agreeableness with minimal conflict escalation
Behavioral nuances:
- On occasion, may become too passive and shy away from interaction, benefitting from a little extra encouragement
- In rare instances, might show slight hesitation in new situations, requiring reassurance from our dedicated staff

Special Day School Program for Non-Social Dogs
At A Wal
k in the Park, we understand that not all dogs thrive in social playgroups. For those who may not enjoy group interactions but still have a keen interest in engaging activities and human companionship, our Special Day School Program is the perfect solution.
Dogs in this program enjoy all the solo enrichment activities available in our regular enrichment program, including training games, frozen Kongs, and relaxing story time. This creates a balanced routine of activities and rest, ensuring a fulfilling and enjoyable day.
Additionally, we recognize that some dogs may prefer one-on-one play with another dog, and we encourage these interactions if it suits the dog's temperament. Our Special Day School is also ideal for unaltered dogs older than seven months. Unneutered males can disrupt group dynamics, and unaltered females in heat should avoid daycare facilities.
However, new research suggests benefits in delaying spaying or neutering, and our program offers a safe, enriching environment for these dogs to learn and enjoy solo activities. Remember, social play is just one of many ways to enrich a dog's life, and our Special Day School ensures that every dog has the opportunity to engage in activities they love while their owners are away.
